Ibiza is known worldwide for two completely different identities: international party capital and laid-back bohemian island at the same time. Especially during July and August, these contrasts become even more noticeable. In Playa d’en Bossa, near Ibiza Town, the nightlife comes alive with iconic clubs such as Ushuaïa and Hï Ibiza, while Sant Antoni’s famous West End fills up with visitors until late at night. Around Sant Rafel, you will also find legendary clubs such as Amnesia.

Those looking for peace and tranquillity will find it in the green north around Sant Joan, Portinatx, or Benirràs, as well as in charming inland villages such as Santa Gertrudis or Sant Josep. In between, Santa Eulària offers a more family-friendly atmosphere, excellent infrastructure, and a calmer setting, while the coast of Sant Josep is better known for stylish beach clubs and upscale restaurants rather than traditional clubbing. Outside the high season, especially in May, June, September, and October, the entire island becomes noticeably more peaceful.

During July and August, it is best to avoid Playa d’en Bossa and the West End in Sant Antoni, as these areas become very lively and noisy at night.

For families with children

Santa Eulària des Riu is the island’s leading family-friendly region, offering calm coves such as Cala Llonga and S’Argamassa, a beautiful promenade, and excellent infrastructure. In the north, Portinatx provides a particularly family-friendly bay with shallow, calm waters that are ideal for children. Cala Bassa and Cala Conta on the Sant Antoni coastline are also excellent choices for daytime beach trips, although staying directly near the West End is not recommended. Less suitable areas for families include Playa d’en Bossa and the centre of Sant Antoni due to the active nightlife.

Playa d’en Bossa is Ibiza’s main party area, home to clubs such as Ushuaïa and Hï Ibiza. In Ibiza Town, you will find Pacha and Lío, as well as cultural highlights such as Dalt Vila during the day. Sant Antoni is known for the West End, its famous bars, the iconic Sunset Strip, and its proximity to major clubs such as Amnesia and Es Paradís. Those who want to enjoy Ibiza’s nightlife without staying directly in the middle of it can choose the hills around Sant Rafel or Santa Gertrudis as a quieter alternative. From there, the island’s main clubs can be reached in around 10–15 minutes, while still enjoying a peaceful place to stay.

For a peaceful holiday (away from the crowds)

Sant Joan in the north is one of Ibiza’s hidden gems and is considered one of the island’s quietest regions, with vast pine forests and traditional rural fincas. Places such as Portinatx, Sant Vicent, and Sant Carles are also small, peaceful villages surrounded by nature. In the island’s interior, around Santa Gertrudis and Sant Llorenç, you can enjoy central yet relaxed locations with easy access to other parts of the island. The village of Sant Josep is also rural and peaceful while offering quick access to the exclusive beaches of the southwest coast.

For first-time visitors, Ibiza Town and Santa Eulària are especially suitable, as they offer excellent connections and combine many different sides of the island. From here, all regions can be reached quickly. The north around Sant Joan is less ideal for a first visit, as it is more secluded and does not allow you to experience Ibiza’s full diversity as easily.

Ibiza Town (Eivissa) - UNESCO Old Town and cosmopolitan energy

Dalt Vila, the “Upper Town”, has been a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1999 and impresses with its 16th-century city walls, medieval alleyways, and a history that dates back to Phoenician and Roman times. Down by the harbour, you will find luxury yachts, boutiques, and ever-changing hippie markets taking place throughout the year. Playa d’en Bossa and Figueretas are the main beach areas, with Playa d’en Bossa being known as Ibiza’s party hotspot, home to clubs such as Ushuaïa and Hï Ibiza. Santa Eulària des Riu - the peaceful east coast

Holiday homes in Santa Eulària are an ideal choice for travellers looking for a family-friendly base on Ibiza. The island’s third-largest town offers a beautiful promenade, well-maintained beaches such as Cala Llonga, S’Argamassa, and Es Canar, as well as a relaxed and welcoming atmosphere. Places such as Sant Vicent and Sant Miquel have also preserved the island’s traditional charm. The journey from the airport takes around 40–50 minutes. It is ideal for relaxation, nature, and authenticity, but less suitable for nightlife or a classic beach holiday.

Sant Antoni de Portmany - the sunset coast

Sant Antoni is famous for its Sunset Strip, featuring iconic spots such as Café del Mar and Café Mambo. The West End area is known for its bars, music, and vibrant nightlife. During the day, beaches such as Cala Comte, Cala Bassa, Cala Salada, and Cala Conta invite visitors to relax and enjoy some of the island’s most beautiful coastal scenery, making them among the best places to experience the spectacular Ibiza sunsets. In the surrounding countryside, quieter villages such as Sant Mateu and Buscastell offer a more peaceful atmosphere. The region can be reached from the airport in around 20–25 minutes. It is ideal for younger travellers and sunset lovers, but less suitable for families or those seeking complete tranquillity.

Sant Josep de sa Talaia - the luxury southwest coast

Holiday homes in Sant Josep are particularly suited for travellers looking to experience Ibiza’s exclusive southwest coast. Nearby, you will find Santa Gertrudis, a charming village with restaurants, boutiques, and a bohemian atmosphere. The beaches can be reached within 10–15 minutes. The journey from the airport takes around 15–20 minutes. It is ideal for art lovers, food enthusiasts, and island explorers, but less suitable for travellers whose main focus is staying directly by the beach.

Playa d’en Bossa near Ibiza Town is the heart of Ibiza’s open-air party scene, home to superclubs such as Ushuaïa and Hï Ibiza, and is considered the island’s most vibrant beach area. In the harbour of Ibiza Town, you will find more sophisticated nightlife spots, including Pacha, one of the island’s oldest clubs dating back to 1973, as well as the elegant dinner club Lío. Sant Antoni is known for major clubs such as Es Paradís and Eden, attracting a young and international party crowd. In the island’s interior near Sant Rafel, you will find two of Ibiza’s most famous superclubs: Amnesia and Privilege. On the southwest coast near Sant Josep, the legendary underground club DC10 has become an iconic destination for electronic music lovers. Those who want to enjoy Ibiza’s nightlife while staying somewhere peaceful can choose accommodation in Sant Rafel or Santa Gertrudis and reach all major clubs by taxi within 10–15 minutes.

All flights arrive at Ibiza Airport (IBZ) in the south of the island, which is why renting a car is recommended for maximum flexibility. Transfer times are short: Ibiza Town and Playa d’en Bossa can be reached in around 10–15 minutes, Sant Josep in 10–20 minutes, Sant Rafel and Santa Gertrudis in 15–20 minutes, Sant Antoni in 20–25 minutes, and Santa Eulària in 25–30 minutes. Reaching Sant Joan or Portinatx takes around 40–50 minutes.

The best time to visit is from May to June and September to October, when the weather is warm and the island is less crowded. July and August are peak season, with busy clubs and higher prices. April and November are much quieter, although many clubs are closed, and the sea remains pleasant with temperatures between 19–22°C.

One absolute highlight is a day trip to Formentera: the ferry takes around 30–45 minutes from Ibiza Town and brings visitors to paradise-like beaches and a peaceful island atmosphere.

The official languages are Catalan and Spanish. English is widely understood, and German is also common in tourist areas. The currency is the euro.
