Historical background of the accommodation

> Gérard de Villers, Commander of the Knights Templar in Brabant and Hesbaye, became lord of the estate of Villers in 1260.
> Following the acquisition, he established a commandery in Villers, which soon came to encompass a significant territory. The commandery comprised a castle flanked by four towers, built of stone and roofed with slate. In the courtyard stood a large chapel, topped by an elegant bell tower.
> Gerard de Villers died in 1273. His blue stone funerary plaque now stands at the entrance to the nave of the present church. It depicts him in armour, a sword at his side, slaying a demon represented by a serpent.
> Several of the original buildings have survived the centuries. They form the architectural core of the present-day area.
