âLuxembourg Ardennes Trails â Forest & Water â Fischbach Circuit Hikeâ â Hiking in Northern Luxembourg
On 27/04/2025, we didnât set off from a holiday home for onceâbut further down youâll find vacation rentals located directly on the trail. You can find the hike on komoot under: Luxemburger Ardennenpfade â Wald & Wasser â Rundwanderung Fischbach: It starts in Fischbach: After peaceful stretches of paved and field paths, you soon find yourself in bright beech and spruce woods. From kilometer 3 onward, narrow trails wind along the Our slope, offering impressive views down into the valley at Kasselslay. A picturesque stream crossing leads you onto relaxed riverside paths before a powerful final climb crowns the panorama from the forest hill. The gentle descent through Roder and past the small chapel provides a celebratory finale.

- Starting point: Bus stop âBei PrĂȘntzenâ
- Distance: 12,1 km (round trip)
- Difficulty: Moderate hike. Good overall fitness required. Mostly well-maintained paths. Sure-footedness necessary.
- Duration: Approximately 3â4 hours, depending on breaks and pace
- Ascent: 380 m; Descent: 380 m
Getting There & Parking
đ By car:
- Parking: Hotel-Restaurant Reiff â free private parking for hotel guests; day-visitors are advised to check availability in advance.
- Address: Hotel-Restaurant Reiff, 4 Hauptstrooss, L-9749 Fischbach-Clervaux
đ Tip: Use the Park & Ride facility in Clervaux and take the bus (lines 161/162/164/182 or 170/174/A09/A14) to the âFischbach, Bei PrĂȘntzenâ stop â this avoids the hassle of finding parking in the small village. In Luxembourg, bus and train travel is free.
Highlights along the route
1. Clearing Platform â Panoramic View:
- From a small forest clearing, you get an expansive outlook over the surrounding wooded slopes.
- In clear weather, the vista reaches all the way to the ridgelines of the Luxembourg Ardennes.
2. Kasselslay â View over the Our Valley:
- One of the highest points on the route, offering unobstructed, breathtaking views down into the Our Valley.
- An excellent photo spot, especially in the warm glow of evening light.




3. Bridge over Natural Stream:
- A wooden bridge crosses a small tributary with babbling, clear water.
- Perfect for a short break and some nature listening.
4. Up Close to the Our:
- Narrow paths run along the riverbank, often over roots and stones.
- The sound of the water accompanies you for several hundred meters.




5. Forest Hill â Short Climb & View:
- A brisk ascent up a wooded hill with occasional clearings.
- Perfect for catching your breath and enjoying some fresh forest air.
6. Small Chapel in Roder:
- A charming sandstone chapel at the end of the loop offers peace and reflection.
- With a bit of luck, you may encounter goats đ along the way.





Practical tips
- Costs: The hike is free and accessible at any time.
- What to Bring: Drinking water and snacks for the scenic breaks at Kasselslay and along the Our riverbank.
- Best time to visit: Spring through autumn â in winter, paths may be icy.
- Gear: Sturdy footwear (for roots and light scrambling); trekking poles recommended in wet conditions.
Tips:
- After your hike, enjoy seasonally rotating Luxembourgish classics at the Hotel Reiff in Fischbach â reservations recommended.
- For a more sophisticated ambience, visit the ChĂąteau dâUrspelt in Urspelt. From 6:00 PM to 9:00 PM, youâll find a selection of classic and modern interpretations of French cuisine, always fresh, seasonal, and sourced responsibly and largely locally.
Our Personal Favorites:
- Sushilovers đŁ should plan a detour to Restaurant Kami in Troisvierges: the menu ranges from nigiri, maki, ura-maki, and temaki to Japanese-inspired appetizers, fresh salads, and hot wok dishes with chicken, beef, duck, and seafood. Everything can be ordered onlineâeven delivered straight to your holiday home.
- At the Primavera Ristoranteđ in the Shopping Center Massen in Wemperhardt , savor delicious Italian specialties at fair pricesâand on nice days, the terrace offers a wonderful view of the surrounding landscape.
- Restaurant K in Huldange combines cozy and modern ambiance with classic hospitalityâperfect for anyone who values good cuisine and stylish surroundings. In summer months especially, be sure to reserve early for a spot on the back terrace.
- If you fancy Italian food combined with fresh fish, then we recommend the Casa 56 in Weiswampach - a modern Italian seafood restaurant with a great wine list. Try the carte blanche surprise menu from the chef; you wonât be disappointed.
